中南大学（中南，Central South University），创建于2000年，坐落于湖南省长沙市，是教育部直属、中央直管副部级建制的全国重点大学，是“双一流”“985工程”“211工程”高校。该校入选“111计划”“2011计划”“卓越工程师教育培养计划”“卓越医生教育培养计划”“卓越法律人才教育培养计划”、国家建设高水平大学公派研究生项目，是全国开展八年制医学教育（本博连读）的五所大学之一，全国第一所为军队培养现役军官指技合一硕士研究生的高校，全国毕业生就业典型经验高校，中国-中亚国家大学联盟、中俄交通大学联盟重要成员。[1]

中南大学由原湖南医科大学、长沙铁道学院与中南工业大学于2000年4月合并组建而成。其中原湖南医科大学的前身为1914年创建的湘雅医学专门学校，原长沙铁道学院的前身为创建于1953年的中南土木建筑学院，原中南工业大学的前身为创建于1952年的中南矿冶学院。

Central South University (Central South University), founded in 2000, is located in Changsha, Hunan Province. It is a national key University under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education and under the direct administration of the Central Government at the vice-ministerial level. It is also a "Double First-Class", "Project 985" and "Project 211" University. The university has been selected into the "111 Plan", "2011 Plan", "Excellent Engineer Education and Cultivation Plan", "Excellent Doctor Education and Cultivation Plan", "Excellent Legal Talents Education and Cultivation Plan", and the National High-level University Construction Public-funded Postgraduate Program. It is one of the five universities that carry out the eight-year medical education (this doctoral program) in China. It is the first university in China to train master's degree students in combination with technology for military officers in active service, a university with typical experience in the employment of graduates, and an important member of the China-Central Asian States University Union and the Russia-China Jiaotong University Union. [1]

Central South University was founded by the merger of former Hunan Medical University, Changsha Railway College and Central South University of Technology in April 2000. Among them, the former Hunan Medical University was formerly known as Xiangya Medical School founded in 1914, the former Changsha Railway University was formerly known as Central South Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture founded in 1953, and the former Central South University of Technology was formerly known as Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy founded in 1952.
