1.指代前面提到过的事物

例如：

The cooker in my kitchen is blue.我厨房里的炉子是蓝色的。

It is on the left. 它在左边。

(句中 it 代指上句中的 cooker )

2. 表天气、气候、时间

It is cold these days. 这些天很冷。

--What's the climate like in your country? 你们国家气候如何？

--It's very pleasant. 很宜人。

What time is it？

3.表距离

How far is it from Tianjin to Beijing?

It is 130 km.

4. 指婴儿和不明身份的人。

---John, someone phoned you this morning. 上午有人给你打电话。

---Oh, who was it? 哦， 谁呀？

5. 用作形式主语(常考点)

第一种句式：

例：It‘s necessary for us to learn English well.

对我们来说，学好英语是很必要的。

句中 it 是形式主语，真正的主语是后面的 不定时短语--- to learn English well.

句式结构是这样的：It is 形容词 for sb. to do sth.

又如：It is easy for me to win the race.

这种句式中，常放在 It is 后面的形容词还有： important / necessary / possible / easy / difficult

第二种句式：

例：It's kind of you to help me learn English.

注意，形容词后面不再用 for 而用 of sb.

这种句式中常见的形容词还有：

kind / good / nice / clever / polite / foolish

6. 常见的一些固定表达

It’s time to get up.

It’s time for lunch.

It’s one’s turn to do

It seems that

It takes sb. some time to do sth. （常考）

例：

It took us five hours to cover the whole distance.

7. 用作形式宾语

例：

He likes his new job a lot. In fact，he is finding it very exciting to drive a bus.

他很喜欢他的新工作，事实上，他发觉开公交车是件令人兴奋的事。

常见后跟 it 的动词还有：think / feel

例如：

I think it difficult to get 100 in my English test.

He felt it happy to share the good news with his friends.
