on the house是什么意思？可不是“在房子！

比如你在一家餐厅吃东西,吃完之后服务员拿上甜品给你们,然后说:"This is on the house." 就是说这甜品是不用付钱的。 "house"就是代表该餐厅。

从前美国酒馆有一个惯例。顾客每喝三杯，酒馆就奉送一杯，这一杯自然是on the house(算在酒馆账上)了。这是诱使顾客多喝酒多消费的招数。on the house一词流传了下来，人们用这个表达来说「由店方赠送」、「免费」、「费用由公司或团体支付」等。

eg：Dessert was served at the end of the meal. The waiter said it was on the house.

餐后侍应端来甜点，说是免费奉送的。

类似的表达，也有“It's on me.”

当你的朋友跟你说 “It's on me!” 的时候什么都别想，跟他走吧！因为他要——请你吃饭！不抓紧这个机会，错过这个村就没这个店了哦~

尽管这个句子没有 “It's my treat.” 或是 “Be my guest.” 表达的意思这么显而易见，但 “It's on me.” 可是老外常用语~

这里的 it's 指代就是 the bill，而on me也就是记在我头上的意思。

eg：Hey, don't worry about it folks. It's on me. (It's my treat.)
