狐狸与猴子

At a great meeting of the Animals, who had gathered to elect a new ruler, the Monkey was asked to dance.

在一次动物盟主选举大议会上，一只猴子被要求跳支舞。

This he did so well, with a thousand funny capers and grimaces, that the Animals were carried entirely off their feet with enthusiasm, and then and there, elected him their king.

跳舞对猴子来说，如同小菜一碟，他那无数个滑稽的动作和鬼脸令所有动物为之狂热地着迷，并当场就被推选为动物之王。

The Fox did not vote for the Monkey and was much disgusted with the Animals for electing so unworthy a ruler.

狐狸却没有投票给猴子，相反地，他对动物们推选一只根本不配为王的猴子做盟主厌恶极了。

One day he found a trap with a bit of meat in it. Hurrying to King Monkey, he told him he had found a rich treasure, which he had not touched because it belonged by right to his majesty the Monkey.

某一天，狐狸发现了一个陷阱，里面装着一点肉。他立马就跑去向猴大王报告，说他找到了一件绝世宝物，但自己可没有碰它，因为这宝物理所应当地应归猴王享有。

The greedy Monkey followed the Fox to the trap. As soon as he saw the meat he grasped eagerly for it, only to find himself held fast in the trap. The Fox stood off and laughed.

贪婪的猴子就跟着狐狸去了那个陷阱。猴子一看见那块肉，就心急地想要得到它，最后自己的手却被夹得死死的。狐狸就站在一旁嘲笑着。

"You pretend to be our king," he said, "and cannot even take care of yourself!"

“你自以为是我们的王，”他说，“竟然却连自己都照顾不好！”

Shortly after that, another election among the Animals was held.

不久之后，动物们就举行了另一场盟主推选大会。

The true leader proves himself by his qualities.

正所谓：真正的领导者会用品行证明自己。
