一：仔细审题：

审题过程中不能放过任何细节。该篇文章要求是为了申请美国大学的博士学位，介绍下自己的研究项目。这种话题是比较常见的题目，一般来说申请读博的考生都有自己的研究项目，不至于没有话写，但是要将句子写正确，不出错，也是体现考生的综合的英语表达水平。在Direction后面几个点也是要自己去阅读的：

虽然说研究计划是比较好写的话题，但是我们并不是需要把研究计划的各个方面都去仔细阐明，只需要简单阐明就行，因为字数是有限制的。可以介绍下自己的研究项目的名称，为什么选择该研究项目，以及自己在博士期间如何研究该项目即可。

三：开头与结尾需要拉近与读信者之间的关系:

毕竟是书信，开头需要有称呼，也要有对自己的介绍之后再切入主题。具体介绍完研究计划之后，也要表明自己的意愿，即衷心希望能够成为贵校的博士生开展该项目。

四：注意格式（参照以下例文）:

一般会包括称呼、正文、结尾语和署名。称呼是写信人对收信人的尊称语，从信纸的左边顶格写，末尾用逗号。正文是一封信最重要的部分，位于称呼的下面一行。如果涉及的事物较多，可以分段叙述。信件的结尾语是在署名前再一次表示敬意和问候，在正文下方的右下角开始书写。署名位于结尾语的下方。
