. . . . . . In English, there are many ways to say the same thing.

在英文中,有很多种说同样的事物的方式。你们已经知道很多简单的词汇了,这真的很棒,但是如果你想要获得大家的尊重,赢得大家的注意力的话,使用有趣的、有想法的、有意义的单词肯定是你想要继续为之奋斗的。

Words are powerful man!

朋友们,词汇力量无穷啊!你选择的词汇能够向大家表明你是个什么类型的人。

And the words that you choose to use tell people a lot about the type of person that you are.

Expanding your vocabulary and using inspiring words can make you more successful in business, in school, in life, right?

扩充你的词汇量,使用激励人心的词汇,能够让你在职场上、在学校、在生活中变得更加成功,对吧?你的词汇能够让其他人想围绕在你身边。

Your words can make others want to be around you. They command respect.

它们会赢来尊重。人们更有可能相信你或者是听从你的建议,如果你使用有力量感的词汇的话。

People are more likely to trust you or to follow your advice if you use powerful words.

And the words that you use don't just affect others, using powerful and positive and inspiring words will also have a positive impact on you.

你使用的词汇不仅仅影响别人,使用有力量的、积极的、激励人心的词汇对你也会有积极的正面影响。今天我要送给大家六个激励人心的词汇,大家应该好好学习,尽快地开始使用。

Today I'm going to give you six inspiring words that you should learn and start using as soon as possible.

I'm going to show you how to say them because really, if you can't pronounce these words correctly, it's difficult to deliver an inspiring message, right?

我会给大家展示如何去说这些单词,因为如果你发音不对的话,是很难传递鼓舞人心的信息的,是吧?我会告诉大家它们的意思,也会给大家展示该如何正确使用。

I'll tell you what they mean and I'll show you how to use them correctly. Make sure you turn on the subtitles down there if you need to and if you would like to translate this video for your friends or for others in your country, well that would be pretty damn cool too.

如果你需要的话,一定要打开下面的字幕哦,如果你想要为你朋友,或是你国家的人翻译这个视频的话,那真的就太赞了。翻译视频的链接在描述区。

The link to do that, to translate the video is in the description. Alright let's start with the word 'inspire'.

好的,让我们从‘inspire’这个单词开始吧。是的,如果你想用自己的语言激励其他人的话,你必须知道该如何使用,对吧?如果你激励其他人,让其他人想要做点什么事情,让他们感到自信,对尝试某件事情感到非常激动。

可能是一些新的事情,或者是他们很久都没有做过的事情。让我们以发音开始吧。

Yeah if you're going to inspire people with your words, you're going to have to know how to use them, right?

If you inspire someone, you make them want to do something, you make them feel confident and excited to try something.

Maybe something new or maybe something that they haven't done in quite a while. Let's start with pronunciation first. Inspire.

激励。中间的音节需要重读。

So that middle syllable is the stressed one. In my accent, you can't hear that final R sound but you would in an American accent.

在我的口音中,你是听不到后面的卷舌音的,但是是美音中可以听到。过去式是‘inspired’。

And in the past, it's 'inspired'. Now that final D is a soft D sound so when it's spoken, you hardly hear it.

结尾的d是清辅音,所以说这个音的时候,基本上听不到。Inspired。Inspired。

Inspired. Inspired. So hear how the air doesn't come out.

听,空气并没有出来。我感到被她深深激励。

I feel inspired by her. Not inspired by her but inspired by her.

不是被她激励,而是被她激励。在我释放之前,我发出了那个音。

So I'm catching that sound before I release it. So someone can inspire someone to do something, right?

某人可以激励其他人做某件事情,是吧?我的一个朋友激励我去跑马拉松。

A friend inspired me to run a marathon.

The orchestra inspired her to study music.

管弦乐队鼓舞了她学习音乐。他的哥哥激励他环游世界。

His brother inspired him to travel the world. Right?

So if someone inspires someone else so the structure is always the same, right?

对吧?所以如果有人激励其他人的话,结构总是相同的,对吧?但是你也可以被其他的东西所激励。

But you can also be inspired by something. She was inspired by her boss.

她被老板所激励。我被演讲所鼓舞。

I was inspired by the speech. Who inspires you?

谁激励你了?在你的生活中有没有这样一个人让你非常激动地去做某件事情,让你想要去做某件事情?

Is there someone in your life who makes you excited to do something and makes you want to do something?

Tell me about that person in the comments.

在评论区和我说说那个人吧。告诉我谁激励了你。

Tell me who inspires you.

You can also say that they're an inspiration or that they are inspiring.

你也可以说他们对你来说是一种激励,或者是他们非常鼓舞人心。如果你想到了激励你的人的话,试着去使用所有的单词,也就是‘inspire’派生的所有词汇去描述他们。

So if you're thinking of someone who inspires you, try to use all of these words, all of these words from the 'inspire' word family to talk about them.

Now when you're feeling inspired, you may need some motivation to help you take action, right?

当你感觉被激励的时候,你可能需要一些动力帮助你采取行动,对吧?动力是你想要做某件事情的原因。

Motivation is the reason why you want to do something. It's all of the things and the feelings that make you keep working hard to reach your goals or to finish something.

就是让你不断努力工作,达成目标,完成某件事情的一切。你肯定是为了某个目的才想要变成更加自信的说英语的人,对吧?可能是谋求一份更好的工作,可能是遇见其他国家的人,可能是出国留学,也可能是你喜欢旅行。

You want to become a more confident English speaker for a purpose, right? It could be to get a better job, it could be to meet people from other countries, to study abroad, maybe you'd love to travel.

These are all reasons or your motivation to learn the language, okay?

这都是学习语言的原因或者是动机,对吧?所以呢,‘动机’是用来说原因的更好的、更加高级的方式。

So motivation is like a better, more sophisticated way of saying reason. You can ask people "What's your motivation for learning English?"

你可以问其他人“你学习英语的动机是什么?”这里有好几个音节。

Now there's a lot of syllables to pronounce here. Motivation.

动机。以-tion结尾的单词通常重音都放在-tion之前的最后一个音节上,所以应该念‘motivation’。

So words that end in -tion like this one are usually stressed on the syllable before last so it's motivation. And listen to that last syllable as well.

听一下最后一个音节。动机。

Motivation. That last syllable is unstressed, the vowel sound reduces right down to the schwa so it's short and low in pitch.

最后一个音节是非重读的,元音变成了中元音,所以它很短,而且音调很低。不是‘motivation’。

It's not motivation. It's motivation.

而是‘motivation’。我的姐姐吉尔全职工作的同时还在夜校学习医学。

My sister Jill works full-time and she studies medicine at night school. And that sounds crazy, right?

那听起来很疯狂,对吧?但是她在夜校学习的动力是她孩子的教育。

But her kid's education is her motivation for studying at night school.

Now you've got the motivation let's expand your vocabulary a little because we can use the verb to motivate, to motivate someone to do something, to also express these ideas.

你已经有了动力了,那我们再来扩充一下词汇量吧,因为我们可以使用动词来激励其他人,去激励其他人做某件事情,表达这些意思。她需要身边的人给予她动力,激励她成功。

She needs people around her who motivate and inspire her to succeed. There are also two adjective forms that you need to know, the -ed and the -ing forms.

还有两个你需要知道的形容词,以-ed和-ing形式结尾。动力满满的,和令人动力满满的。

Motivated and motivating. As soon as I lost a few kilos, I was motivated to lose more.

瘦了几公斤之后,我就有了动力想要瘦更多。他的演讲令人动力满满。

His speech was really motivating. There is another adjective, 'motivational'.

还有另外一个形容词,‘有动机的,促进的’。他是个很有动机的演讲者。

He's a motivational speaker. So I'm curious. What or who motivates you to keep going?

我很好奇,什么事情,或者是谁让你动力满满,不断前行?在评论区和我聊聊那个人吧。

Tell me about that person in the comments. I want to take a quick minute to talk about a project that I've been working on. It's called The Ladies' Project.

我想要花简短的的几分钟聊聊我正在从事的一个项目,叫做‘The Ladies' Project’。The Ladies' Project 是一个社区,尤其是针对于正在学习英文的女士,这个社区为什么如此特殊,以及为什么你可能会很感兴趣想要加入的原因是我们的目标并不是督促你去考试,或者是获得另外一个证书。

Now The Ladies' Project is a community especially for women who are learning English and what makes this community so special and why you might be interested to join it yourself is that our goal is not to push you to sit exams or to get another certificate.

Our goal is to inspire you to build confidence and to keep you motivated and to transform you into the confident English speaker that you dream of being and we do this by helping you to meet other women who are just like you.

我们的目标是激励你塑造自信,让你感到动力满满,以及让你成为自己一直梦寐以求的自信的说英语的人,我们通过帮助你见到和你相似的其他女性的方式来实现这个目标。我们会有对话的话题和课程,能够让你每天都拥有非常有意义的、很有趣的对话,都是关于作为女性对我们而言非常重要的话题。

We have conversation topics and lessons that allow you to have really meaningful, interesting conversations every day about things that are really important to us as women. Not like stuff in a textbook, you know what I mean?

So The Ladies' Project is not an online course, it's not another language app, it's a community, a social network with real people, amazing, inspiring women from all over the world.

并不是那种教科书里面的东西,你懂我什么意思吧?所以 The Ladies' Project 并不是一个线上课程,也不是语言软件,而是一个社区,一个和世界各地的真实的、超赞的、激励人心的女性一起参与的社交网络。我们想要拥有在陌生人面前说话、以及表达我们的观点和意见的勇气,对吧?

We all want to have the courage to speak in front of strangers and to express our thoughts and our opinions, right? But you know what?

但是你知道吗?成为一个更加具有自信的说英语的人这件事情并不是孤身一人就可以完成的。

Becoming a more confident English speaker is not something that you can do alone.

The Ladies' Project is a place where women from lots of different cultures can safely meet speaking partners online and feel comfortable to speak in English while they build confidence together.

The Ladies' Project 就是这样一个地方,来自不同文化的女性能够安全地见到线上的语伴,而且感到非常轻松自在地用英语进行交谈,与此同时一起塑造自信心。每次一个对话。

One conversation at a time. If you follow this link up here you can take a tour of The Ladies' Project. I'll show you what it's like inside and explain a bit more about the amazing benefits of being part of this community.

如果你点击这边的链接的话,你就可以看到 The Ladies' Project 。我们给大家看它到底是什么样子的,也会给大家解释成为这个群体的一部分有什么好处。想要申请的话,你必须得是女性才行。

To apply, you do need to be a woman.

You need to have an intermediate English level or higher and you'll also need to register a credit card.

你需要拥有中级或者更高的英语水平,你也需要注册信用卡。The Ladies' Project 是付费社区。

The Ladies' Project is a paid community. I'm completely thrilled to be finally mentioning The Ladies' Project here on my channel.

终于在我的频道提到了 The Ladies' Project ,我感到好兴奋啊。我已经为此努力了很久了,我真的对此充满激情。

It's something that I've been working on for quite a while now, something that I'm really passionate about.

And guys, dudes, I know that this project is not for you but if you have a female friend or a family member who you want to help them to develop some confidence using English, then I'm sure they'd love to hear about The Ladies' Project.

男士们,我知道这个项目并不适合你们,但是如果你们有女性朋友或者是女性家庭成员,而你又想要帮助她们在使用英语的时候变得更加自信的话,那我肯定她们是非常想了解 The Ladies' Project 的。如果你帮忙分享的话,那就再好不过了。

And I would love your help in sharing it. Learning a new language, using big words, speaking out loud, all of this takes courage.

学习一门新的语言,使用更加高级的词汇,大声说出自己的想法,这些都需要勇气。勇气是做某件事情的能力,尽管这件事情有时候可能令人恐惧,非常危险,或者是很困难。

Now courage is the ability to do something even though it might be scary or dangerous or difficult at times. It relates to your emotional strength.

这与你们的情感力量有关。去做你害怕的事情,和勇气有一点相似。

To do something that you are scared to do, so it's kind of similar to bravery.

Hands up if this is a little difficult to pronounce.

如果这有点难发音的话,那就举手示意吧。有很多不同的发音方式可以发英文单词中的OU。

There are quite a few different ways to pronounce the OU in English words.

I talked about them in this lesson actually.

我其实在这节课程中说过了。勇气。

Courage. In the word 'courage' we use the /ʌ/ as in 'up' vowel sound, courage.

在‘勇气’这个单词中,我们使用的是‘up’这个单词里面的/ʌ/元音,勇气。这是最强的音节,所以你需要抱住你的发音是对的。

This is the strongest syllable so you need to make sure that you're pronouncing it right》 And the final consonant sound might be a little tricky too. The sound.

最后的辅音可能有点点难。想要发这个音的话,我要把我的舌头放在牙齿的后面,然后将舌头上抬,但是舌头的边缘是收紧的,或者是挤压的,来发出这个音。

So to make it, I've got my tongue behind my teeth and pushed up to the top of my mouth but the edges of my tongue are pushed or pressed up to seal the sound in.

Okay before the air gets released.

在气流释放之前。还要注意我唇部的运动。

Notice the movement in my lips as well. Courage.

勇气。动词‘have’和‘find’通常和勇气搭配。

Now the verbs 'have' and 'find' are often used with the noun 'courage'. He has the courage to do the right thing.

他有勇气去做正确的事情。或者是她找到了勇气站起来在群众集会上讲话。

Or she found the courage to stand up and speak at the rally.

Now it's definitely worth knowing the adjective 'courageous' as well.

形容词‘勇敢的’也是值得注意的。勇敢的。勇敢的。

Courageous. Courageous. She's a very courageous woman.

她是个非常勇敢的女性。如果有人没有勇气的话,你当然可以激励他们了,是吧?

And if someone doesn't have the courage, well you can, of course, encourage them, right? Encourage sounds really similar to courage.

鼓舞听起来和勇气非常相似。发音基本上是一样的,但是意思有点不一样。

The pronunciation is almost the same but the meaning is a little different. If you encourage someone, you give them hope and confidence and support to achieve something.

如果你鼓舞某个人的话,你给予他们实现某件事情的希望、信心和支持。你不只是告诉他们他们可以做到,而是帮助他们相信自己是可以的。

You don't just tell them that they can do it but you help them to believe that they can. By encouraging someone, you can help them to find courage that they need.

通过鼓舞其他人,你能够帮助他们找到他们所需要的勇气。再说一遍,我们鼓舞某人做某事。

And again, we encourage someone to do something. Their cheering encouraged me to finish the marathon, even though I was exhausted.

他们的欢呼鼓舞了我完成马拉松,尽管我已经筋疲力尽了。她的父母鼓励她学习医学。

Her parents encouraged her to study medicine. So now let's expand a little.

现在让我们再来拓展一下吧。某件事情或者是某个人可以是鼓舞人心的,是吧?

Something or someone can be encouraging, okay? That was an encouraging sign.

那是个鼓舞人心的标志。我觉得我们在正确的轨道上了。

I think we're on the right track. You can also use the noun 'encouragement'.

你也可以使用名词‘鼓舞’。你可以将其和动词‘give’和‘need’连用。

And you can use it with verbs like 'give' and 'need'. I think she needs a little encouragement.

我觉得她需要一点激励。她的老师应该给她一些鼓舞。

Her teacher should give her some encouragement. So it's an uncountable noun, right?

这是个不可数名词,对吧?经常听到这个单词和‘some’或者是‘any’,‘a little’或者是‘a lot’这些量词连用。

It's really common to hear this word used with a quantifier like 'some' or 'any', 'a little' or 'a lot'. Empower.

赋予能量。赋予某人能量是给予他们做某件事情的力量、自信或者是授权。

To empower someone is to give them the strength and the confidence or the authority to do something. The Ladies' Project empowers women to speak English with strangers.

The Ladies' Project 赋予女性能量,让她们和陌生人说英语。这个单词本身听起来就充满能量。

Even the word itself sounds powerful. Notice that the first vowel sound is actually a short sound even though it's spelled with an E it's not.

注意哦,第一个元音很短,尽管是以E开头的,但是并不是, 而是“赋予能量”。

It's 'empower'. So the second syllable is the stressed one.

第二个元音才是重读的。最后一个元音是非重读的,那是个中元音,你能不到我那么说“赋予能量”。

And that final syllable is unstressed, it's the schwa sound and you don't hear me say that Empower. And surely you've noticed the word power in there, right?

当然了,你也注意到里面power这个词了吧?给某人赋能的意思是让他们更加强壮,更加自信地去做某件事情,通常是用来谈论给予某一个人能量、力量或者是控制感,而这个人本身并没有。

To empower someone is to make them stronger and more confident to do something and it's often used to talk about giving power or strength or control to someone who doesn't have it.

But don't be confused. If you are empowered, it doesn't always mean that you are powerful.

但是不要混淆哦。如果你被赋能的话,并不总是意味着你能量满满。这两个单词意思完全不同。

These two words have quite different meanings.

So for example: The CEO wants to empower his management team to make strategic decisions for the company.

比如说:总裁向授权他的管理团队为公司做出战略性决策。谁让你感觉自己被赋能了?

What makes you feel empowered?

Or have you ever empowered someone else in some way?

或者是你是否曾经以某种方式给某人赋能了?你可以听到这里的-ed和-ing形容词形式。

You'll hear the -ed and the -ing adjective forms here.

So something can be empowering and you can also feel empowered, okay?

某件事情可能为你赋能,而你感觉到自己被赋能了,对吧?名词‘empowerment’也值得注意。

And it's worth knowing the noun 'empowerment' as well. Empowerment.

赋能。教育是赋能的一种工具。

Education is a tool for empowerment. These words and their word families are challenging, challenging to pronounce and challenging to use these different types of words correctly but if you're still here you're still working hard, then you've got perseverance.

这些单词和它们的单词组都很具有挑战性,发音很具有挑战性,正确地使用不同类型的单词难度也不小,但是如果你还在坚持的话,你非常努力的话,那你就应该继续坚持下去。

坚持不懈的人不断努力去获得成功,就算困难也是如此。即便有时会比较艰难,但是他们会继续前行。

So someone with perseverance keeps trying to succeed even when it's difficult. Even when things are hard, they keep going. When they get stuck, they find a way around it.

当他们被困难所困的时候,他们会寻找方式避开。当他们失败的时候,他们会继续尝试,他们并不会放弃。

When they fail, they try again, they don't give up. So perseverance, it really isn't something that you can learn.

所以持之以恒并不是你能够学习到的东西。你或许对于自己实现某件事情有非常强烈的愿望,不然就没有。

You either have a really strong desire in you to achieve something or you don't. So I've got a question for you.

所以我为大家准备了一个问题。你有持之以恒的决心让自己的英语变得流畅吗?

Do you have the perseverance to become fluent in English? Can you keep going even when it's difficult?

即使艰难险阻,你也会继续前进吗?因为大家在和我一起练习了,我知道你们都不会轻易放弃的。

Since you're here and you're practising with me I know that you don't give up easily. You have perseverance or determination.

大家拥有持之以恒的信念。大家都非常坚决。

You're very determined. Or tenacity, you're very tenacious.

或者是顽强的斗志,大家都非常顽强。这都是持之以恒的象征。

These are all synonyms of perseverance. Let's focus on the pronunciation for a second.

让我们先看一下发音吧。持之以恒。

Perseverance. That third syllable is the stressed one, perseverance, perseverance.

第三个音节重读,坚持,坚持。不要忘记最后的辅音,双辅音。

Don't forget that consonant sound at the end, that double consonant. Perseverance. Perseverance.

持之以恒。持之以恒。经常在困难的境况中听到‘坚持’这个动词是吧?

Now it's really common to hear the verb 'persevere' in difficult situations, right?

She chose a difficult career path but she persevered and she graduated with the degree that she wanted.

她选择了一条困难的职业发展道路,但是她坚持下来了,她顺利毕业,获得了她想要的学位。你能想到你曾为之坚持的事情吗?

Can you think of anything that you have persevered through?

Any of the mama's out there, well, you've persevered through childbirth, right?

所有的母亲都从分娩中挺过来了,是吧?那些前几次驾照考试失败的人,最后才成功获得了驾照,你们也坚持下来了。

Anyone who's failed their driver's license several times before, maybe before they finally got it, well you persevered as well.

So I hope this lesson has inspired you to be a little more courageous with your English vocabulary and that you're motivated to use these words again soon.

所以我希望这节课能够激励大家更加勇于面对自己的英语词汇,而且动力满满地使用这些词汇。如果你们觉得有点不确定如何使用其中的某些单词的话,那就练习在评论区造句吧,我会为大家检查的。

If you're feeling a little uncertain or a little unsure about how to use some of these words, then practise by writing some sentences in the comments below so that I can check them for you.

I've also got a little quiz over on the mmmEnglish blog so you can test what you learned here today.

我在美味英语博客准备了一个小测试,所以大家可以测试一下今天学到的东西。链接就在下方的描述区,或者就在旁边。

The link is in the description below this video or there's a link somewhere around right now. And now it's time for our next lesson.

现在是下节课的时间啦。

See you in there!

再见啦!
