During her student days, Ms. Maya showed considerable academic strength: she won the second place in a national translation competition organized by the European University. It is worth mentioning that during the period 2012-2014 she was one of the authors of the book "Dictionary of Higher Education Terminology", published with the support of the European Union and the Romanian Ministry of Education.

Having lived in Chengdu for several years, she had long heard about Beanstalk, and when asked why she chose to work at Beanstalk, she said that Beanstalk has always been known for its high educational standards and professionalism. She was very happy and proud to be a part of this team.

在下一学年,Maya老师将教授UOI和其他与IB课程相关的科目。

In the coming school year, Ms. Maya will be teaching UOI and other subjects related to the IB curriculum.

The UOI (Unit of Inquiry) is an integrated curriculum that breaks down disciplinary boundaries and takes inquiry deeper, emphasizing student experience, practice, and presentation. In the IB PYP, Maya instructs students to learn how to work independently and in teams. As IB learners, students learn how to be risk takers, how to be communicators or how to be principled.

At the same time, Ms. Maya will also let each student play to their strengths in the group inquiry process based on her past experience and let them explore according to their own interests, which is a way to motivate them to do better and to give them the power to make their own choices and take initiative in their learning.

Q1您的课会给学生带来什么样的能力?

What competencies will your classes bring to your students?

My goal in developing students is to have them broaden their horizons, be open-minded, caring, communicative, and most importantly, inquisitive in my classroom. The curriculum is not just about gaining knowledge, but how it fits into and impacts children's real daily lives and makes a difference.

At Beanstalk, before each inquiry lesson, teachers prepare their lessons thoroughly, not just for the subject they teach, but for multiple and interdisciplinary lessons. The goal is to use the learning content, skills and literacy of each subject as a strong support for the inquiry lessons.

What do you want your child to have to shine in this subject?

Through the UOI program, we encourage students to think critically and solve complex problems. In addition to developing these lifelong skills, students enjoy being an active part of their communities and making a positive impact on them.

From your observations, what are the qualities of students in international schools? Can you share a story about your relationship with a student.

Most of the students who study in international schools are more open-minded and have a stronger global mindset. In my recent teaching experience, I am proud to say that students have become more confident in expressing their ideas, and they have become more eager to reach out and learn more about the community in which they live in order to make a positive impact (e.g. a campaign to clean up a local river or a school campaign to protect water resources).

This was very gratifying to Ms. Maya because the students were no longer an individual, but rather they saw themselves as part of the community, placed themselves in the community, and wanted to contribute to the community through their own efforts.

This is a cliché, and as a former teacher who has worked in IB schools in Europe, Maya believes that one of the main differences is that students are generally more confident in expressing their ideas and are more connected to each other in classroom collaborative projects in the IB program. This, among other things, makes it easier for teachers to direct this curriculum collaboration project.

Are there any club activities related to your discipline this semester? If so, please give a brief description.

The best community events are always those that work with each other and are planned with the students, so they can be 100% engaged and proud of the results of their hard work and learning. In the coming semester we may have activities such as a fundraiser for an animal shelter, a science fair or a school magazine (created by students and shared with the school community).

在Maya老师的教学史上最让她感到骄傲的事

What is the thing you are most proud of in your teaching history?

There have been many proud moments in my teaching career. However, two of these stand out to me the most, and that is when one of my students successfully advanced to the national competition in an English speech contest held by China Central Television. Another proud moment was when one of my students participated in the Cambridge Young Learners competition, where students were asked to submit an essay in English and design a character for an upcoming Cambridge Young Learners book. The essay and character created by my student was selected and used in a fun skills book series published by Cambridge University Press. The competition attracted over 20,000 students from around the world and then only six students ended up winning the award, which made me incredibly proud.
