I. A gerund is used as the subject of a verb. (动名词主语)

1.He handed me a letter and I was just as happy as I could be, because the fighting was all over and the battles had all been won.

他递给我一封信，像往常一样，我很高兴，因为战争已结束，我们赢了所有的战役。

2.Looking back on how it was in years gone by and the good time that I had makes today seem rather sad．

回首过去感叹几多，岁月匆匆而过，细数我曾经美好的时光，使得今天略显悲凉

II. Only a gerund is used after the following verbs. (动名词宾语)

3.I can't stop loving you. I've made up my mind to live in memories of the lonesome time.

我无法停止爱你。我已经决心活在寂寞的回忆里。

4.The breeze from the bayou keeps murmuring low: Tammy, Tammy,you love him so.

河口吹来的微风不断地低声呢喃：泰米，泰米，你那么爱他。

5.If the world should stop revolving,spinning slowly down to die, I'd spend the end with you.

如果世界停止转动，慢慢的直到末日，我也会陪你到最后。

(此类动词例如: Confess, imagine, finish, practice, hinder, excuse,forgive, drop, stop, prevent, mind etc… )

III. Object of apreposition.（介词、副词后）

6.I'm through with love. I'm through with counting the stars above

我不再爱了。我不再数天上的星星。

7.I went to your wedding although I was dreading the thought of losing you.

我去了你的婚礼，虽然我怕自己想到失去你。

8.Why does the sun go on shining? Why does the sea rush to shore? Don't they know it's the end of the world 'causeyou don't love me any more?

为何太阳依然照耀？为何海浪拍打沿岸？难道它们不知道这是世界末日？因为你已不再爱我。

9.Crying is not for me, because I'm never going to stop the rain by complaining, because I'm free, nothing is worrying me.

我不会再哭泣，因为我知道抱怨不能让雨停下，因为我自由了，没有什么让我担忧。

10.When tears come down like falling rain, you'll toss around and call my name.

当泪如雨下，你会反复呼唤我的名字。

IV. Few verbs of sensation take the gerund-forms if the action of the verb is in progress. (宾语补足语；verbs of sensation感觉类动词。）

11.Tomorrow night you'll find me sleeping underneath the moon at Yellow River.

明天夜晚，你会发现我睡在黄河的月光下。

12.Your folks and mine happy and smiling. And I can hear sweet voices singing Ave Maria.

你我的家人幸福微笑。我能听到甜美的歌声唱着“圣母玛利亚”。

13.If you ever change your mind,come back to me and you'll find me waiting there at your command.

如果你改变主意，就回来找我，你会发现我在等着你。

14.Imagine all the people livinglife in peace...

想象所有人生活在和平中……

15.When I saw you standing there, I'm about to fell out my chair. And when you moved your mouth to speak, I felt the blood go to my feet.

当我看见你，我险些从椅子上掉下来。当你开口说话，我感到管不住我的双脚（要冲上前去）。
