潍坊是渤海莱州湾南岸重要的海滨城市，辖四区八县市，设有国家级高新技术产业开发区、国家级滨海经济技术开发区、国家级综合保税区和省级峡山生态经济开发区，面积1.62万平方公里，海岸线158公里，海域面积1288.9平方公里，常住人口940万，是世界风筝都、国际动力城、全国文明城市。
