1.概念：过去进行时表示在过去某一时间正在进行的动作。

2.构成：过去进行时由“was／were 现在分词”构成。was用于主语是第一人称及第三人称单数的句子中，were用于主语是第二人称及其他人称复数的句子中

4.过去进行时的基本用法(1)表示过去某一时刻正在进行的动作。时间状语通常比较具体，如at 6 o'clock yesterday morning，at the time from 8 to 9 last Sunday，at this time last night等。My mother was cooking at seven yesterday evening.昨天晚上7点我母亲正在做饭。(2)表示过去某一段时间内正在进行的动作。She was reading a book all the morning.整个上午她都在读书。(3)用于含when或while引导的时间状语从句的主从复合句的主句或从句中。The Greens were having supper when I knocked at the door.我敲门时，格林一家正在吃晚饭。While I was walking in the park，I met Mr Zhang.我在公园散步时，遇见了张先生。

5.过去进行时与一般过去时的区别过去进行时强调动作在过去某一时刻或某一段时间内正在进行，而一般过去时表示在过去某个时间发生过的动作或存在过的状态，强调动作已完成。He was writing his composition last night.他昨晚在写作文。(不一定写完)He wrote his composition last night.他昨晚写了一篇作文。(已经写完)
