On December 28^th, 2013, Zhengzhou Metro Line 1 Phase 1 was opened to traffic. It was 26.2 kilometers in length and connected the old and new districts of the city. With its operation, Zhengzhou ushered in the metro era.

As can be seen on the map, the two new metro lines constitute the underground arteries in downtown Zhengzhou together with existing lines.

Line 3 Phase 1 starts from Henan Sports Center Station in Huiji District north of the city and goes southward to Yinggang Station to the south of the Longhai Railway. It runs through Huiji District, Jinshui District, Erqi District, Guancheng Hui District, Zhengdong New District, and the National Zhengzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone.

3号线一期工程，北起惠济片区的省体育中心站，南止陇海铁路以南的营岗站，贯通惠济区、金水区、二七区、管城区、郑东新区、经开区。

Line 4 starts from Laoyachen Station to the west of Jiangshan Road in Huiji District and ends at Langzhuang Station to the north of the South 4^thRing Road, connecting Huiji District, Jinshui District, Zhengdong New District, and Guancheng Hui District.

4号线，北起惠济区江山路以西的老鸦陈站，南止南四环以北的郎庄站，勾连惠济区、金水区、郑东新区、管城区。

Every station along Metro Line 4 is equipped with a robot that seems to bring you into a high-tech world. The ceiling is decorated in an industrial technology style.

"The bare ceiling visually enlarges the space. The exposed cement ceiling and orderly-structured pipelines create a raw aesthetic effect," said the head of the Electromechanical Equipment Department of Zhengzhou Metro, adding that the most striking improvement was the harmony in the overall decoration.

“裸顶装饰可以保留层高，让空间看起来更加通透宽敞，裸露的水泥顶，轻盈利落的管线结构，很好地体现了自然与格调。”郑州地铁机电设备部负责人说，新晋线路最直观的改变在于外观与整体装修风格的适配。

For example, the traditional clocks at both ends of the station hall are replaced with four-sided displays; and the bullet cameras are upgraded to "dome cameras", "fisheye cameras" or "multi-eye cameras", optimizing the overhead space.

For the first time, a comprehensive energy management system platform that can analyze and tabulate the energy usage of the whole electromechanical system is constructed in Line 4, providing a reliable data basis for energy-saving measures. The new lines also employ a visible anchoring scheme of DC power supply cables and integrative devices for cross-zone uninterruptible switching; the overhead equipment for DC power supply in a metro system is highly integrated. This innovative application enhances space utilization, reduces equipment cost, and facilitates its operation and maintenance.

It is like an exciting "underwater journey" to take a metro train from Longhunan Station to Longhubei Station, via Financial Island North Station and Financial Island South Station.

当地铁自龙湖南站，穿过金融岛北站、金融岛南站，抵达龙湖北站时，视觉倒置，空间穿越，恍若进入了“水底世界”。

The Dragon Lake (pinyin: Longhu) is the largest in Zhengzhou, with a maximum depth of about 7.0 meters. Underneath the southern outer lake area, Zhengzhou Metro Line 4 runs safely through shield interval tunnels, which cut through the diaphragm walls twice relying on a scientific design. The minimum net distance between the shield interval tunnels and the bottom of the outer lake is 5.9 meters.

At the intersection of Shangdu Road and Zhongzhou Boulevard, the sewage pipeline – the main pipe connecting Zhangzhuang Pump Station and the sewage treatment plant is a barrier in the way of Metro Line 4. Constructed in 2000, the reinforced concrete pipe carries a full load. Since there is no sewage drainage pipeline upstream, once it leaks, the consequences will be unimaginable. Fortunately, the construction personnel tackled this difficult task with ingenuity.
