英语语法in the front of 的用法（英语辨析4in）

我们以前学过动词'possess'，其基本含义是“拥有，占有”。重音在第二个音节上。

If you possess something, you have it or own it.

possession 是它的名词，其重音也在第二个音节上。意思也是“拥有，占有”。

它的名词短语有两种结构：

♥ 如果要表达“某人拥有，占有或持有某物”时，要使用：

Sb. be in possession of sth. (注意人做主语)

♥ 如果要表达“某物被某人拥有，占有或持有”时，要使用：

Sth. be in the possession of sb. (注意物要做主语)

= Sth. be in one's possession (此短语用法更常见一些)。

如果大家体会了“英语辨析 3”里的 in the charge of 短语中定冠词'the'的使用，那么理解短语in the possession of里的定冠词'the'就不难了。英语学习见得多了，大家就会发现有些用法都是相通的。

例句 1：

那个看门的老人才持有这些钥匙。

That old doorkeeper is in possession of these keys.

例句 2：

这些钥匙被那个看门的老人掌管着。

These keys are in the possession of that old doorkeeper.

= These keys are in that old doorkeeper's possession.
