01、Green light

A green light means you may turn left, go straight or turn right.

绿灯意味着你可以左转、直走或右转。

02、Yellow light

A yellow - or amber - light means the red light is about to appear. You must stop if you can do so safely; otherwise, go with caution.

黄灯或琥珀灯表示红灯即将出现。保证安全时，你必须停下来;否则，小心行事。

03、Red light

A red light means you must stop. Bring your vehicle to a complete stop at the stop line if it is marked on the pavement.

红灯意味着你必须停车。如果车道有标识，请把车停在停车线上

Wait until the light changes to green and the intersection is clear before moving through it.

等到交通灯变绿，十字路口畅通后再通过。

04、wait for the red light≠等红灯

虽然我们在中文中常说等红灯，因为我们是在红灯亮着的时候，发生等待这个动作的，但是英文中千万别直接这样翻译，正确的表达为：

①wait for the red light to change 等红灯

②wait for the green light 等红灯

③stop by the red right 红灯前停车

因为wait的本意是等待人或事的出现，介词for后接其等待出现的对象，我们是等红灯变绿灯，所以正确的说法应该是：wait for the green light或wait for the red light to change。

例句：

If you want to cross the road, you must wait for the green light.

如果你要过马路，你就必须等到绿灯亮。
