The Rule of Proximity就近原则:

◆The verb in an or, either…or…, neither…nor…, not only…but also… sentence agrees with the noun or pronoun closest to it.

◆当or, either…or…, neither…nor…, not only…but also…连接的并列成分作主语时,谓语动词与最邻近的主语保持一致。

★ A technical manual or samples are distributed free at the exhibition.

★ 展览会上,技术手册或样品免费分发。

★ The manager or his assistant is going to attend this meeting.

★ 这位经理或者其助手会去参加此次会议。

★ The committee members or the student writes every day.

★ 委员会成员或该学生每天都在写。

★ Either you in person or your representative attends the meeting.

★ 要么你本人,要么你的代理人来参加此会。

★ Either the father or his sons have to attend the marriage.

★ 要么这位父亲,要么其儿子必须来参加婚礼。

★ Either he nor I am in the wrong.

★ 要么是他错了,要么是我错了。

★ Either you or she is to go.

★ 要么你去,要么她去。

★ Neither my sisters nor his mother is singing in the pub tonight.

★ 我的姐妹们和他的母亲今晚都不在酒馆里唱歌。

★ Neither Andy nor these boys are to blame.

★ Neither Andy nor his parents are at home.

When the sentences start with THERE or HERE, the verb agrees with the nearest subject.
