Are you smoking? 确实有“你是不是在抽烟”的意思，但实际使用中很少这样用，绝大多数情况它都表示“你是不是傻？你是不是疯了？” 要是身边有人说了一些你觉得比较傻的话， 就可以说 Are you smoking? 来吐槽他们。

smoke 这个词除了表示“吸烟”，还可以表示“吸毒”，一般吸毒的人精神都不正常，Are you smoking? 是 What are you smoking? 的简写，意思就是说，你吸的到底是烟还是毒啊，是不是疯了怎么会说这种话。

例句：

- I'm going to take a walk in the rain.

你一直想什么呢？

这个和 Are you smoking 有点类似，What have you been smoking 意思就是“你一直想什么呢？”。但和 What have you been thinking? 语气不太一样。

What have you been smoking? 语气就相当于“你脑子里一直想什么呢？你是不是傻？”，而 what have you been thinking? 是在问“你在想什么？”

要问“你抽烟吗？”，吉米老师教大家两种表达，可以说 Are you a smoker? 也可以说 Do you smoke?

smoke 是“抽烟”，那 smoker 就是“抽烟的人”，Are you a smoker? 意思就是“你抽烟吗？”

另外，不管是“你抽烟吗？”还是“会抽烟吗？”，都要说 Do you smoke? 千万不能说成 Can you smoke? 英语里一般不会这么问哦~

这里的 heavy 表示“过度的”，heavy smoker 意思就是“烟瘾大的人”。吉米老师一直说学习一定要举一反三，heavy smoker 是“烟瘾大的人”，那“酒瘾大的人”可不可以说 heavy drinker 呢？可以的。heavy smoker 是个名词词组，我们能不能改写成一个动词词组，说成 smoke heavily 呢？也是可以的。

有些人长期抽烟就会经常咳嗽，英语里也有固定的表达，可以说 have a smoker's cough。cough 是“咳嗽”，a smoker's cough 就是“烟民的那种咳嗽”。

例句：

Don't be a heavy smoker, or you would have a smoker's cough.

烟瘾别太重了，否则你会因长期抽烟而咳嗽。

smoke 趣味俚语

There is no smoke without fire.

无风不起浪，事出必有因

There is no smoke without fire 字面意思是“不点火就不会起烟”，引申为“无风不起浪、事出必有因”，它还可以写成 where there is smoke there is fire。

where there is smoke 意思就是“有烟的地方”，而 there is fire 意思是“有火”，有烟的地方也有火，意思同样是“无风不起浪、事出必有因”。像这种中文里的谚语，要说的时候可能一时不知道怎么翻译，所以这种表达吉米老师建议平时就要记下来。

例句：

I don't know why, but there is no smoke without fire.

我不知道原因，但是无风不起浪。

when the smoke clears

待到烟消云散时

这里的 smoke 表示“烟雾”，等到烟雾都散去了，一切也就明朗了，所以 when the smoke clears 引申为“等到事情都结束以后，结果也就明确了”，可以翻译成“待到烟消云散时”，也可以翻译成“等一切都过去以后”。

例句：

When the smoke clears, you would find that the difficulties you are facing now don't matter.

等一切过去以后，你会发现你现在的困难都不算事。

如何戒烟更容易成功？

1. Take a new hobby up so that you are distracted and not as tempted to smoke.

培养一个新的爱好，那就可以分散注意力，不会被吸烟诱惑。
