英语晨读小故事（329晨读夜诵英语小故事）

This story is about a 92-year-old, well-poised（自信的） and proud lady.

这个故事讲的是一位92岁高龄、自信而又骄傲的女士。

She is fully dressed each morning by eight, with her hair fashionably（时髦地） done and makeup perfectly applied, even though she is totally blind.

每天早上八点，她都穿戴整齐，发型十分时尚，妆容也很完美，尽管她完全失明了。

She is moving to a nursing home today.

她今天要搬到养老院去。

Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary.

一同走过70个岁月的丈夫最近去世了，搬到养老院是必然之举。

After many hours of waiting patiently in the hall of the nursing home, she moved to the elevator.

在养老院的大厅里耐心地等了好几个小时后，她来到了电梯前。

I provided a visual description of her tiny room, including the eyelet（孔眼） sheets hung on her window.

我对她的小房间进行了一番视觉描述，包括挂在窗户上的孔眼布。

"I love it," she stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old girl having just been presented with a new puppy.

“我很喜欢。” 她热情洋溢地说，就像一个8岁的小女孩刚刚得到一只小狗一样。

"Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen the room yet. Just wait."

“琼斯太太，你还没有看到那个房间呢，先别急着下结论。”

"That doesn't have anything to do with it," she replied.

“那和我喜不喜欢这个房间没有关系。” 她回答。

"Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time.

“幸福是你事先就决定的事情。”

Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged, it's a decision I make every morning when I wake up."

“我是否喜欢我的房间并不取决于家具的摆放方式，而是我每天早上醒来时所做的决定。”

"I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do.

“我可以做出选择：我可以花一整天的时间躺在床上，细数身体的不便带来的困难；或者从床上起来，感激身体的某些部位还能活动自如。”

Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away, just for this time in my life.

“每一天都是一个礼物，只要我睁开眼睛，我就会专注于崭新的一天，专注于我珍藏的所有幸福记忆，就只为了生命中的这一刻。”

Old age is like a bank account, you withdraw from what you've put in.

“老年就像一个银行账户，你要把存入的东西取出来。”

So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories.

“所以，我给你的建议就是，在回忆这一银行账户里存入大量的幸福。”

Thank you for your part in filling my memory bank. I am still depositing."
