英语阅读英译英：French fries

我们学习英语最缺的能力，不是能不能用完整的汉语句子表达“这句英语什么意思”的能力，而是我们不能用完整的英语句子把学过的旧英语用起来表达“这句英语什么意思”的能力。所以，所有的英语学习和训练就是训练这方面的英语运用能力。

一、你是用英译汉方式“读懂”下面的英语及每一个字都不漏地翻译成汉语吗。

Joe: Hey, Sarah, do you want some French fries? They’re really tasty!

Sarah: No, thanks. I am trying to lose weight.

Joe: Why? You look good.

Sarah: Well, I want to look better.

Joe: Oh, I see. How about the vegetable salad?

Sarah: Not a bad idea.

Joe: Then for the main course? Today’s special is steak.

Sarah: Hmm… could I share one with you?

Joe: No problem. What would you like to drink? Cola?

Sarah: No, I prefer water. But I want some dessert.

Joe: Dessert? Shouldn’t you avoid sweets?

Sarah: Dessert makes me happy. How can I refuse?

二、训练要求：用完整的学过的（旧）英语句子表达“这句英语什么意思？”

必须是整句话的英语！

1. Do you want some French fries?

Okay.I got you.If you say Do you want some French fries,you mean/you can also say Do you want some potato chips.French fry means potato chip.

2.They’re really tasty!

Okay.I got you.If food is tasty,it is delicious, or yummy.

估计很多人“主动”使用单词delicious时基本上无法一个字母不错地写下来。这就是英语“只学不用”的结果。

3.I am trying to lose weight.

Okay.I got you.If you say you try to lose weight,you mean or you can say you try to become thiner or lighter.

很多人只会见lose weight，“说”汉语“减肥”

4.How about the vegetable salad?

Okay.I got you.If you say How about salad,you mean or you can also say Do you want some salad

5.Not a bad idea.No problem

Okay.I got you.When we say Not a bad idea,we mean No problem.

6.for the main course? Today’s special is steak.

Okay.I got you.Food like beaf steak,bread is called main course,diffetent from side dishes.

7.What would you like to drink? Cola?

8.I prefer water.

Okay.I got you.What.would you like to drink means What would you prefer

If you say What would you like to drink,you can also say What would you prefer (to drink)

就怕离开汉语就“不懂”英语，也不会说英语。
