“inasmuch as”或者“insofar as”何时可以和“because”互换?

有同学可能会以为“inasmuch as”和“insofar as”是不是拼写错了，其实没有错。但是实际上它们和“because”要表达的意思许多时候是一样的。

当我们或者其他人认为某件事是对或者不对的时候，我们可以把because换成

“inasmuch as”或者“insofar as”：

I think that I am going to pass my exam this weekend insofar as I have been studying hard for the past 3 months.

我认为这个周末我能通过考试,因为在过去的3个月里我一直在努力学习。

但是，有一点点区别，只有当我们或其他人认为某事是对的或者不对的，即人们认为的那种原因，下面这个例子不适宜用：

I cannot speak Spanish inasmuch as I did not learn the Spanish language as a child.

在这种情况下，你不可以使用“inasmuch as”

因为这是个事实，我的确没学西班牙语，不是我认为，所以只能使用because.

I cannot speak Spanish because I did not learn the Spanish language as a child.

我不能教西班牙语，因为作为一个孩子我没有学过西班牙语。

我们使用这2个词组来引导证据证明自己说的话是对的。也就是说，这个词组用于知识型因果关系（epistemic causal relation），而不能用于语义型因果关系（semantic causal relation）。
