一小块面团或油酥面皮包着鱼，肉或者素菜，并且用油，蒸汽或者热水煮熟的食物

应该有不少人都知道，dumpling并不特指“某一食物”，而是只要“面皮包着馅”的食物，我们都可以叫做dumpling。这也是为什么不管是“饺子”还是“汤圆”，都可以用dumpling来表示的原因。

单词详解

根据词源，dumpling这个单词来自于以前的lump，现在的lump主要指“肿块”（可以说是与饺子确有几分相似）。

当然，你也可以与单词dump相互关联。dump，主要表示“倾倒，抛弃”，而饺子与汤圆都需要“倒”到热水中煮，因此这两个词的关系可大了。
