每年都有很多小伙伴会参加城市马拉松赛跑（marathon），而且还要报名抽签抽中了才能跑，这股精神和王霸之气真是让人望尘莫及。

想想看，马拉松赛跑如果你跑全马的话，可是有42.195千米啊——名副其实的长跑了。

不过，在英语中，“Long run”可不是“长跑”，“short run”也不是“短跑”啊！

从字面上看，long run和short run像是“长跑”和“短跑”，只不过这里的run咱们不能理解为跑步，更像是某一段时间。

看看英文解释：Used to describe what will happen in a long or short period of time in the future，也就是用来描述在将来很长一段时间内或很短一段时间内，将会发什么。

因此，long run和short run是指长期和短期，有时候也写作long term和short term。

① This strategy can make the business more efficient in the long run.

从长期来看，这个策略可以让业务更有效。

② We are very pleased with the short run，especially the performance of this quarter.

我们对眼下（短期）感到很满意，尤其是这个季度的业绩。

那“长跑”到底用英语怎么说呢？

长跑，也就是意味“距离比较长的跑步”，所以我们可以说成long-distance race or long-distance run（long-distance表示长途的，长距离的意思）。

① The runner with the greatest endurance can win long-distance race.

有非凡耐力的选手才能赢得长跑冠军。

② It is surprising that Tom won a silver medal in the long-distance race.

汤姆在长跑比赛中赢得了银牌，这真是太让人惊讶了。

既然“长跑”叫long-distance run，那“短跑”是不是short-distance run？你要这么描述，也不能说错。

只不过，在英语中，短跑有专门的叫法——sprint或者dash，意思是短跑，冲刺跑，短程竞速跑。
