女朋友：我感冒了

男朋友：多喝热水！

如果一个外国人和你说“hot water”

先别生气 他可能不是和你谈论“热水”哟

关于“水”的俚语

in hot water

"in hot water"按字面的意思是：在热水中。当外国人和你说“I'm in hot water.”，你千万不要以为他大夏天在泡温泉。在口语中，“in hot water”是一个俚语，指某个人遇到了麻烦，身处于某种困境之中。

［例］

I didn’t study for the exam, so I am in hot water.

test the water

"test the water"这句话最早来源于妈妈们在给小宝宝洗澡时，通常会先用手试一试水温，避免太烫或太冷。后来这句话就延伸为在做一件事情之前，先试一试，即：试探；摸底。

［例］

She feels ready to test the water and begins dating with the boy.

keep your head above water

在水中，我们要“keep your head above water”（保持头在水之上）这样才不会溺水。因此，这个俚语常用来表述“避免麻烦”。当你的朋友遇到了一些问题，你可以对他说：“Keep your head above water”，意思是：（即使困难，也要）“继续加油”。

watering hole

“watering hole”这个词最早是形容沙漠中的湖和水坑，在那里通常都会聚集很多嗷嗷待哺的动物。现在这个词更多的是指“酒吧”，因为这里会吸引很多来喝酒的人们。

water under the bridge

“water under the bridge”（桥底下的流水），这句话有点像我们常说的“泼出去的水”，意思是过去的事情就让它过去吧，比喻事情已成定局,难以挽回。

[例]

Ben: I’m sorry I was late yesterday.

Zoe: No problem, it’ s water under the bridge.Just don’t do it again.
