1、It is often argued that music is a nice medium to bring people from different countries or having different ages together. While I consider that musical compositions or lyrics of many songs seem to be loved by many people in the world, I disagree that they are helpful in reducing the generation gap, in fact, the opposite is true in my personal view.

1、人们常常认为，音乐是一种很好的媒介，可以把来自不同国家或不同年龄段的人聚集在一起。虽然我认为许多歌曲的音乐作品或歌词似乎受到世界上许多人的喜爱，但我不同意它们有助于缩小代沟，事实上，在我个人看来恰恰相反。

2、People having different nationalities love similar kinds of music or songs in recent times. This is primarily because musicians and lyricists prefer to portray the culture or even ways of living of their people in their creations, and hence, foreigners often choose to listen to the music of different areas in order to become aware of practices and traditions followed in different countries. For instance, the songs composed by A. R. Rehman, who is one of the renowned Indian singers and music composers, are hugely popular in the world as they usually reflect the emotions and culture of India. In this manner, I believe music reduces the differences between countries.

2、如今，不同民族的人们喜欢相似的音乐或歌曲。这主要是因为音乐家和作词人更喜欢在创作中描绘自己民族的文化甚至生活方式，因此，外国人经常选择聆听不同地区的音乐，以便了解不同国家遵循的习俗和传统。例如，印度著名歌唱家、作曲家雷赫曼（A.R.Rehman）创作的歌曲通常反映了印度的情感和文化，因而在世界上非常流行。以这种方式，我相信音乐可以减少国家间的差异。

3、However, I believe the recently made songs or music rises the differences between people having different ages. While many young people love listening to pop music or rap songs, most elderly people hate these styles of music and, instead, enjoy songs having positive or motivational meanings. A recent survey, for example, has revealed that the Bollywood songs composed in the 20th century are loved immensely by the old people in India, whereas Indian children hate these songs. This is why I think music has the least or no effect on bringing people of different ages together.

4、To conclude, although it makes sense to me that music, in general, brings people of different locality or nation together, I would argue that it increases the gap between young and old people due to differences in the musical preference.
