「等等」用英语怎么说?除了Etc.,还有什么地道的方式吗?
背景音乐:Love the Way You Lie - Eminem / Rihanna
你知道 etc. 是什么吗?
Since I’m a teacher And I work in a school, with students, and textbooks, everyday, I often find that most of the students don’t really know how to say etc. Do you? I think maybe 1 out of 100 students will actually know the true pronunciation of that word.
Of course, by now, we all know it means 等等, right? And, I’ll be honest, even in my classes, when I help student read, whenever the student comes across the “etc,” I just tell them “and so on.” It’s because it’s not an easy word to learn! Both the spelling and pronunciation are complicated! So rather than waste a lot of time during my classes, I just skip it.
But not anymore. I want you to be one of those special students who can say it the right way. We can also use this chance to look at some other common English ways to say 等等. So let’s get started, shall we?
Etc. 的全称以及发音
Etc. is an abbreviation. That’s why there is a period, or “.” after the letters. The full word is et cetera. You can see where the etc come form now, right? It’s pronounced /ɛt ˈsɛt ər ə/ In general, native English speakers don’t say “e.t.c.” when see the abbreviation, but we still actually pronounce the entire word, “et cetera.” If you want to speak perfect English, next time you come across “etc.” you should also say “et cetera.” You’re teacher would certainly be impressed!
Are you getting tired of using ‘etc.’ or just want to know some other ways to say the same thing? Then here’s a nice little list for you.
