故宫中英文（故宫的英文到底是Forbidden）

学英语的小伙伴们可能遇到过这么一个问题：故宫的英文，到底是Forbidden City还是Palace Museum？这两个说法有什么区别？哪一个才是更加标准的说法？

首先看一下维基百科怎么写的：

Forbidden City:

The Forbidden City (Chinese: 故宫) is a palace complex in central Beijing, China. It houses the Palace Museum, and was the former Chinese imperial palace and state residence of the Emperor of China from the Ming dynasty (since the Yongle Emperor) to the end of the Qing dynasty, between 1420 and 1924.

简单翻译一下：

The Forbidden City （中文：故宫）是位于中国北京中央地带的一组宫殿建筑群。（接下来重点来了）它容纳了Palace Museum，并且是中国明清两代（自明永乐以来至清朝灭亡，1420-1924）的皇宫和皇帝居所。

我们再看palace museum怎么说的：

Palace Museum:

The Palace Museum (Chinese: 故宫博物院) is a national museum housed in the Forbidden City at the core of Beijing, China.

The Palace Museum （中文：故宫博物院）是一所国立博物馆，位于北京核心区域的Forbidden City内。

答案很明显了：所谓的Forbidden City，来源于紫禁城的意译，现在在英文语境中用来指代作为场所和建筑群的“故宫”。当我们使用Forbidden City时，我们指代的是这一组建于公元1420年、保存至今的伟大宫殿建筑群。

而Palace Museum的含义是“故宫博物院”，更多地表示设于故宫中的这一具有博物馆性质的机构。当我们使用Palace Museum时，我们指代的是一座1925年成立、拥有无数珍贵馆藏的博物馆。

所以尽管在物理空间上，Forbidden City和Palace Museum是重合的，但是在具体用法上，两者的区别还是很明显的：

The Forbidden City is one of the greatest palace complexes in the world.

故宫是世界上最伟大的宫殿建筑群之一。

The Palace Museum cooperated with Huawei to apply 5G network。

故宫博物院与华为合作推进5G网络覆盖。

另外，位于我国台湾省的故宫博物院，其英文名称也叫做Palace Museum。它可不能被叫做Forbidden City，因为它不在明清故宫里，建筑也是完全新建的！
