途 中 吴春山

我们的车辆在雾霭中穿行，经验的物事

在倒退。逼仄啊，红色汽车尾灯

白色标志线，路旁闪现矮灌丛的轮廓

我们的语言搁置在唇齿间，漫长的冬季后

我确信父亲会卖掉一只羊

铅灰色天空久久被原罪割据，那透出的明亮部分

来自于父亲的前额，我就坐在他的身侧

相距不足三十公分，如果我们之间的空气不会

变得局促，或许我们将互为暗示

在新修的从县城到乡下老家的快速公路上

一种沉默，点燃了另一种沉默。我在想什么?

我什么也没想?晶莹的盐粒烘托出流年之光

语言的力量在脉搏里翻滚，我的父亲

身影从幻象中分离出去

隐忍而克制，在羊群普遍匮乏的年代

仿佛拖着整个起伏而日渐富庶的南方

En Route

Our car driveson in the fog, whilst all things empirical

recede. Ah, how claustrophobic, only red taillights

and the road’s white markings, and the shadowy shrubs fall by the wayside.

We are both tongue-tied—undoubtedly when the long winter is over,

Father will sell a sheep.

The sky is leaden gray, besieged by guilt; the only shine

comes from Father’s forehead, with me sitting next to him

no more than a foot away. If the atmosphere isn’t so

tense, maybe we can clue in each other’s thoughts,

but instead one silence is reciprocated by another silence

on this new city free way towards our country home. What am I thinking?

I am not thinking of anything. As salt crystal has an ancient glitter,

words have the power to boil our blood. My father’s image—

stoical and disciplined—

floats out from illusions. In these times when sheep are generally scarce,

he seems to be pulling the weight of the volatile prosperous south.
