History of April Fools' Day愚人节的历史

Although the day has been celebrated for several centuries by different cultures, its exact origins remain a mystery.

虽然不同文化背景下的人们庆祝愚人节已经好几个世纪了，但是它的确切起源依然是个谜。

Some historians speculate that April Fools' Day dates back to 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar.

有些历史学者认为愚人节可以追溯到1582年，那时候法国停止使用儒略历，改用格里高利历。

People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes.

有些人收到消息比较滞后，或者忘了新年改到了1月1日，就依然在三月最后一个星期到4月1日期间庆祝新年，这些人就成为了笑柄，会被捉弄。

Today, all over the world, April Fools' Day is a day when people all around the world engage in silly practical jokes with their friends and family.
