whether引导的是什么状语从句（whether引导让步状语从句的用法详解）

（一）whether表示让步，陈述句语序，非虚拟语气。

句法意思：表示无论这样或那样，结果都一样。

结构用法：whether用于主句前后都可以，用正常语序，表示让步。

字典例句：

• I'm going whether you like it or not. 不管你愿意不愿意，我都要走了。《牛津词典》
• It makes no odds to me whether you go or stay. 你的去留与我无关。《牛津词典》
• You've got to go to school, whether you like it or not. 不管你喜欢不喜欢，你得上学。《牛津词典》
• Whether you love or loathe their music, you can't deny their talent. 无论你是否喜欢他们的音乐，你都无法否认他们的才能。《牛津词典》
• You are entitled to a free gift whether you accept our offer of insurance or not. 无论你接不接受我们的保险提议，你都可以免费得到一份礼物。《牛津词典》
• There seems to be little difference whether you eat all your calorie allowance at once, or spread it over the day. 无论你是一次性吃完全天的卡路里限量还是分散在一天里吃，似乎没多大区别。《柯林斯英汉双解大词典》

注意：

1. whether可以用在主句前面，也可以用在主句后面，且有无逗号均可。
2. whether引导让步状语从句, 跟although，as long as等引导从句时的道理一样，就是正常一个连词，从句用陈述句语序。

对比：宾语从句

• Please say definitely whether you will be coming or not. 请说清楚，你来还是不来。《牛津词典》
• Youwill probably be asked about whether you partake in very vigorous sports. 你可能会被问到是否参加非常剧烈的体育运动。《柯林斯英汉双解大词典》

这两个例句中的whether从句都放在了say和about的后面。动词和介词后面都叫宾语，因此都是宾语从句，而不是状语从句。whether可以引导名词性从句，状语从句。

（二）whether表示让步，陈述句语序，虚拟语气。

句法意思：表示无论这样或那样，结果都一样。

结构用法：常见whether和be动词联合使用，比如whether they be, whether it be。未见whether it do的形式。

字典例句：

• These qualities are what have made great writers great, whether they be George Eliot or Tolstoy. CNN
• Indian workers, whether they be in the organised sector or the unorganised sector, are too poor for that. BBC: NEWS
• It frees countries to allocate their resources—whetherthey be cheap labour, fertile land or educated minds—as efficiently as possible. ECONOMIST
• Most stories —whether they be novels, plays, films, or slide decks — have a beginning, the middle, and an end. FORBES
• "It's never too late, whether it be 10 years, 15, or 28 like mine, " she added. BBC
• When the change comes, how do we handleit, whether it be good or bad? BBC
• Whetherit be on the beach, at the grocery store or even in the office, people love to free their feet. CNN

（三）whether表示让步，倒装语序，虚拟语气。

句法意思：表示无论这样或那样，结果都一样。

结构用法：whether省略，用倒装。未见whether it do的形式。

whether it be = be it 不管，无论、不论。

whether they be = be they不管，无论、不论。

非字典例句：

• Whether he is rich or poor, I will marry him.
• =Whether he be rich or poor, I will marry him.
• =Be he rich or poor, I will marry him.
• All matter, whether it be gas, liquid or solid, is made up of atoms.
• =Be it gas, liquid or solid, all matter is made up of atoms.
• She enjoys watching dance, be it ballet, national minority dancing or any other sort of dancing.芭蕾舞也好，民族舞也好，随便什么舞她都喜欢看。
• Be it a painting, a photograph, a poem or a novel, if you created it, you own it and it’s the copyright law itself that assures that ownership.不管是一张画，一张相片，一首诗或是一本小说，如果你创造了它，你就拥有了它，而它的版权法本身就保证其所有权。

（四）总结

whether it is: 保留连词 whether...or...结构，用陈述语气

whether it be：保留连词 whether...or...结构，用虚拟语气

be it：省略 whether的倒装结构，用虚拟语气

没有：whether do的陈述虚拟以及倒装虚拟

（五）学生提问的专四语法题

解释：

这道题可以在A和B中进行考虑，其他不可以，原因简单不做解释了。

当选择A的时候，完整句是whether they be gases的省略倒装，即：whether they be gases = be they gases. 此处用的是虚拟语气。

当选择B的时候，是个陈述句，就是whether they are gases. 与A相比这里的系动词是are而不是be，因此是非虚拟语气。

最终的答案是A，选择虚拟语气，原因主要有这么几个：

1. 《夸克语法》里说be的虚拟式有一种文学色彩

2. 《薄冰语法》里说be it这类用法较为正式

3. 王老师的总结

我的这个总结主要是通过大量观察比较，暂时没有专家的理论支持，原因是翻遍了各种语法书，没有找到同样情况下虚拟和不虚拟的区别。

这道题选择用虚拟，有一种“绝对包括”的感觉。虽然说的是“所有的物质，无论固体液体。。。”，其实是在表达“就算不是固体，液体，也。。。”，这样就构成虚拟了。

此外，根据我的个人总结，这样的高度强调，多含有all这样的绝对词。意思是“所有的东西都不例外，就哪怕是啥啥啥都是如此”，你提出来“啥啥啥”，就是一种虚拟，因为不存在这个，你一定要提出来，就是虚拟。

最后，从结构的角度来说，我观察到这样的用法多用于“句中插入语”，而不是句首或句尾。
