在翻译专业资格考试的汉语译成英语中，原文句子往往都很长，这也是汉语的特点。翻译长句时要先理清句子的主要部分，搞清结构后再拎除句子的主干部分，再看一下其余部分应该在译文中翻译成什么成分。下面分析一句源自考试真题中的一句话。

汉语原句为一个句子，但很长，一共126个字，但句子的结构很清楚，其主干为：妇联寻求组织变革的直接动因是……，其余部分都是具体原因或者动因了。

在翻译时，我们不可能像现在的汉语句子一样把主要部分置后，也就是不能译成头重脚轻的句子。因此，要把“妇联寻求组织变革的直接动因”放在译文的开头，译成主语：The direct reasons for Women’s Federations to seek for organizational transformation，其他各个部分直接译成短语的形式。
