1. 表示“重新思考”,“重新开始”,可以用:
1)start afresh 重新开始
2)think afresh about 重新思考
例如:
He moved to America to start afresh.
他搬到美国,从头开始。
Trustbusters need to think afresh about how tech markets work.
反垄断机构需要重新思考科技市场的运作方式。
2. 当我们想要表达“从某一观点的角度看问题”的时候,可以使用perspective或prism(棱镜):
1) from that perspective / from my perspective 从那个角度来看/从我的角度来看
2) from a feminist/Christian/global perspective 从女权主义/基督教/全球的角度来看
3) (viewed) through that prism 从这个角度来看
例如:

例如:

exacerbate意思是让不好的东西变得更不好,即“恶化、加剧”,“雪上加霜,火上浇油”,后面常加疾病、问题等词。比如,谈到环境污染对人类健康的影响时,可以说:
Environmental pollution exacerbated human's health problems.
exacerbate可以用aggravate替换,含义及用法完全一致。
make one's woes worse,给某人雪上加霜,火上浇油。知道woe可以表示“问题、困境”的意思就可以了,而且常用复数,外刊中常用woes来替换problems,比如,financial woes 金融问题。
11.a growing body of research
表示“很多、大量”,除了a lot of..., a large amount of...等词,我们还可以说a body of...,比如a body of evidence 大量证据,a body of information 大量信息, a body of research 大量研究。
例如:
A growing body of research demonstrates that in young people psychiatric illnesses are linked with heavy consumption of social media.
越来越多的研究表明,青少年的精神疾病与大量使用社交媒体有关。
此外,还有很多"a n. of"的结构都可以表示“多”的意思,比如a slew of:
1)A slew of competitors, promoting comfort and inclusivity, have taken that message to heart.
许多提倡舒适和包容的竞争对手已将这一点牢记于心。
还有a host of:
2)A dearth of competition among firms helps explain wage inequality and a host of other ills.
企业间缺乏竞争是导致工资不平等和其他诸多问题的原因。
还要说明的一点是,在新闻中,body还经常表示“机构、组织”,比如a regulatory body 监管机构,an advisory body 咨询机构。
12. obsess over likes and comments 迷恋于点赞和评论,引申为沉迷社交媒体
例如:
It is difficult to prove that obsessing over likes and comments causes mental illness, rather than the other way around.
很难证明沉迷社交媒体会引发精神疾病,而不是精神疾病患者容易沉迷社交媒体。
likes指“点赞”,也可以说thumbs-up.
mental illness=psychiatric illnesses:精神疾病
the other way around是一个很地道的用法,表示“另一种(相反的)情况”,前面常加否定词,比如rather than, not等,表示“而不是相反的情况”。
例如:
To succeed, edtech must be at the service of teaching, not the other way around.
教育技术要成功,必须要服务于教学,而不是学习。
(言外之意是,教育技术要辅助老师教学,而不是学生学习。因为一旦学生接触了技术,很难抵挡诱惑。not the other way around = not at the service of learning.)
13. well-paid 表示“高薪的”
如果觉得这个词用腻了,也可以换成lucrative:a lucrative job 一份高薪工作。如果表示“工作成功“,可以说:a high-flying job/a successful job.
