本科生因学习成绩被开除（学生分数低教授被开除）

A renowned chemistry professor from NYU was fired after 82 of the 350 students in his course complained that their scores were too low, therefore demonstrating his class was too hard.

纽约大学刚开除了一位著名的化学教授，因为有82名学生（共350名学生）向院校投诉他给的分数太低，抱怨他的课太难。

The school made and defend the decision based on students' complaints about the professor's "dismissiveness, unresponsiveness, condescension and opacity about grading."

学校基于学生投诉教授藐视分数，对考分不作回应以及成绩不公开透明等原因做出如此决定。

For the professor's part, he observed a decline in student ability in learning and the trend of lowering academic standards by universities trying to pander those paying tuition bills.

从教授方面来看，他看到的是学生学习能力的下降以及学校为了能获得更多学生的学费而一再降低入学门槛。

The incident begs a question that is relevant to tertiary education in China. Should most of the high school graduates be admitted to universities as now they do? Or should the academic rigor be held even though that means some students would be left behind if they don't make the cut.

这件事同样引发对中国大学高入学率的思考：大学真的应该像现在这样录取大多数高中生吗？还是，即使一些学生考不上，仍然不能降低学术门槛？
